I freakin’ love Ooshima Tomo. Also, this is exactly the kind of story which makes NicoMaki the most interesting pairing in all of Love Live!. Nico’s character itself is the only one which highlights the sad/helpless/impossible side of dreaming to be an idol. She’s the only character explicitly aiming to continue past highschool, past the safe, artificial little bubble constructed by the gimmick of a “school idol”. Contrast that with Maki, who’s also the only other character with a defined future, that of NOT being an idol, and you have a relationship which can seriously dig into the very PREMISE of the show. For no other LL! relationship, is the future such a vital and pressing thing.
All that, of course, not to take away from the natural charisma and chemistry of the characters. But in that regard the other Muse members/pairings can definitely compete. I just love this sort of slightly more intense and serious departure in Ooshima’s work ’cause it really highlights a different side to the series.

I’m late, but I’d really like a sequel to this, how did this work out for the two of them? I realize that kind of undermines the open ending, but I’m a sucker for happy endings.
